12. Nov. Mount Kyaiktiyo (Kyite Htee Yoe), famous for the huge golden rock perched at its summit, is one of the three most sacred religious sites in Myanmar. Pilgrims come here from far and wide to worship and add gold leaf to the rock, but only men are allowed to touch the rock. Some of the local families sleep on the platform, which looks like a big tent camp. The rock is on the top, on the edge of the 1100-metre high mountain.
The journey up Mount Kyaiktiyo involves taking an extremely crowded open-top truck (which rushes alarmingly through the spectacular jungle scenery like a roller coaster – this was really funny
I had organise a taxi for this great day trip and shared it with Renée an austrian tourist, she is just a day before in Yangon arrived and joined very spontaneous. We had a fantastic day, with a great taxi driver, some fantastic stops on the way and beautiful weather, which you could see in the pictures below 🙂
